There are several ways of determining the level of stock held by a company:-

* In absolute terms i.e. so many units

* In financial terms i.e. £million pounds (usually based on purchase rather than sale price)

* In number of weeks stock i.e. dividing annual sales by the amount of stock to give an indication of how many weeks' of sales are covered

* As "stock turn" i.e. how many times in the year, the stock is sold

Each of these methods has its advantages and it is important to use it in the right context.
