2. What technology should I use?

That depends upon the reason! Some of the most common are:

Barcode - used to reduce errors. Radio Terminals can integrate in real time with your main computer system

RFID - Radio Frequency Identification systems may well replace barcodes, in time. They can track the movement of products automatically. As yet, no agreed standard

Sortation - Useful for rapid sort of different products for despatch. Several types but can be expensive and usually require a lot of space.

Mini-Loads - An automated way of moving pallets to and from storage

Fork Trucks - Many types and still the most popular automation

Conveyors - Move products around a site and a boon in reducing manual handling

 

3. What legislation affects the warehouse?

All of the Health and Safety obviously applies.

Additionally it is the area where Manual Handling Regulations are usually the most applicable.

There are recommendations on the pallet racking that will probably become law.

Packaging Waste regulations refer to all of the packaging that you receive and use and can become onerous.
