It is a fact that productivity does not go up of its own volition. Indeed when ignored, it is likely to reduce year on year. It is equally true that most people do not measure their productivity and cannot say whether it is improving or not. Even if measured, it is not always clear why it is changing.

The simplest measure of efficiency is the number of units despatched per employee.
Calculate as the number of items despatched divided by the total number of hours used in the warehouse.

There are other measures, items picked per hour, items packed per hour etc, all of which help to give a picture of the productivity.

It is essential that productivity is increasing every year. For a growing company, the increase provides the assurance that its growth plans are not blocked by the inability of the warehouse to supply the customers.
